Goldy McJohn & Friendz
Goldy McJohn is a Canadian keyboard player best known as the original keyboardist for rock group Steppenwolf. Originally a classically trained pianist, he was a pioneer in the early use of the electronic organ in heavy metal. In 1964, he played with a local band, Little John and the Friars before moving on later that year to become a member of Mynah Birds, which also included Rick James, Bruce Palmer and (after McJohn left) Neil Young. In March 1965, he briefly joined The Diplomats before joining The Sparrows in September of that year. The band (with various changes) went on to become Steppenwolf and he remained with the group from 1967 to 1974. He also played with Steve Marriott in a reconstituted version of Humble Pie. McKohn lives in West Seattle, Washington where he performs and records locally. His solo releases include New Visions. Fugue in D, Goldy McJohn & Friendz, Rat City in Blue, Set the World on Fire and Osmosis.

Tony Bellamy's Redbone Revue
Redbone played primarily rock music with R&B, Cajun, Jazz, tribal, and Latin roots. Tony is no stranger to the world of live music. The Las Vegas musician has an extensive history as a guitarist d ating back to the 1960's, including a career as guitarist and original member of the Native American rock band, Redbone. Tony's family is part of the Yaqui-Lakota nation. One night at a Los Angeles "hot spot," Tony's band opened for "The Pat and Lolly Vegas Revue." A couple nights later, Tony asked if he could sit in with them. The audience response was overwhelming. Tony officially joined the Vegas brothers in a new band in 1969 and the Redbone legacy was born. Tony's performance on stage as guitarist and dancer evokes a spiritual spontaneity with audiences worldwide. Redbone released over a dozen albums and had such hits as "Come and Get Your Love," and "The Witch Queen of New Orleans."

Seattle Firefighters Pipes & Drums
One of the country's best pipe bands is right here in our backyard. The Seattle Firefighters Pipes & Drums (SFP&D) was formed in 2004 to honor fallen police and firefighters killed in the line of duty. The band is made up of completely career Seattle firefighters who volunteer their time and energy to honor the fallen with bagpipes and drums. This volunteer organization is funded on donations and paying gigs. The tradition of bagpipes in the fire service dates back to the very first fire departments in the country who were made up mostly of Irish men who took the job out of pride but also because they couldn't find other work. The bagpipes became synonymous with both professions due to the many funerals of these dangerous occupations. Besides playing line of duty funerals, the band also participates in parades, fundraisers, charity events, parties, weddings, fire department ceremonies and here at the Stanwood-Camano Community Fair on Saturday, August 2nd. |
Skagit
Rein Riders
Ladies Equestrian Drill Team
The team was formed in 1986 by a handful of women who had a few things in common: Their love for horses and their desire to devote their spare time and energy to this love. The team has grown and developed into one of the most entertaining and exciting performance drill teams in the NW. They claimed the 1998 Freestyle Championship during a drill team competition. They enjoy traveling across the NW and performing at various rodeos, exhibitions, and parades...including the Stanwood-Camano Community Fair. Their performance is a fast-paced, high energy, musical show with full-size flags waving as they run, gallop and trot around the arena. They have earned the motto, “Fun, Fast, & Furious!” |
Whiskey Creek
Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band
For 25 years, Whiskey Creek has thrilled audiences all over the west coast as America's number one tribute to the legendary southern-rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Whiskey Creek not only
plays Lynyrd Skynyrd, they personify the group onstage bringing
the audience back in time 30 years as they blaze through
classics like Sweet Home Alabama, Gimme Three Steps, The
Breeze and their phenomenal note-for-note version of Lynyrd
Skynyrd's "Live" guitar opus Freebird. One of the most amazing
aspects of Skynyrd's music (and Whiskey Creek's tribute) is
that its fan base literally runs from 7 to 70 years old! This has
been proven everywhere they've played. "Thank you for the FANTASTIC show. You blew us (and the audience) away!" Carol Dooley: KISM 92.9 FM.

War Pigeon
The members of War Pigeon came together in 2005 with an undeniable thirst for something new. Experimenting with genres and trading influences, the trio searched for a sound that wasn't typical of the current scene. The result is a blend of lyrical and instrumental songs shaped by a jambalaya of backgrounds. Combing the power of rock n' roll with the eloquence of abandon jazz, War Pigeon is a street fight between Led Zeppelin and the Meters, while Miles Davis watches for cops. The ensuing performance reflects their energy and enthusiasm, providing audiences with a spontaneous, fluid experience that operates outside the boundaries of today's popular music. War Pigeon's latest album, Glacier, was recorded by the band in a cabin near Mt. Baker in the Washington Wilderness. Written, produced and mixed by the band, Glacier is a snapshot of contrasting aesthetics and belief in open expression.

Canine Crowd Pleasers
The Canine Crowd Pleasers from Cloud’s Canine and Every-
Buddy’s Agility Fun are back by popular demand! These teams
will wow the crows once again with performance demonstrations
in obedience and agility by top teams. Spectators may observe
obedience skills that serve as the foundation to all performance
sports, including agility. “Obedience training nurtures companionship
and teamwork while developing a deep bond that is
mutually beneficial in the relationship between dogs and people,”
said tony Cloud, owner and trainer of Cloud’s Canine, a premier
pet resort and training facility on Camano Island. The Canine
Crowd Pleasers are sure to impress fairgoers with their agile abilities as they navigate an obstacle course at top speeds with the help of their handlers. Agility is more than running up ramps and going through hoops, it’s about teamwork that is the result of ongoing training between handler and dog as explained by Michael Bruce, owner and trainer for Every-Buddy’s Agility Fun in Snohomish. Spectators are sure to enjoy the show as the dogs run, jump, balance, and weave their way throughout the weekend with daily demonstrations at the Fair.

Music that will take you on a journey to explore the roots of the American Experience... Irish, Bluegrass, and Old-Time.

South End String Band
I n these modern times of stormy confusion, one band looms on the horizon, offering an island of seeming sanity. The South
End String Band plays old-time fiddle music with 9 musicians
trained in Post-Modern Stress Syndrome Rescue. No, they
can't cure those nihilistic blues or Oprah withdrawal. They
can't help program your DVD or even stop a simple computer
virus. They don't know Wi-Fi from HI-Fi. Truth is, they barely
fell off the turnip truck when it comes to the 21st century; and
the 20th sort of missed them too. But for an hour, they'll set
your toes tappin, your foot stompin, your mood risin and your
hair on fire. Celtic, hoedowns, fiddle tunes, and post industrial
pre-computer blues. American roots music so nostalgic
you'll swear you smell the woodsmoke curlin off the banjos.
They'll take you to a place where the neighbors knew each
other's names, not their e-mail addresses. South End String
Band: music from the Good Old Daze !! |
